EAST DENNIS, MA - Elaine M. (Banks) Clark, 71, formerly of Athol, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at her daughter's home in East Dennis, MA, after battling a long illness.
She was born in Worcester on December 14, 1938, the daughter of the late Vernon and the late Roberta (Welch) Banks.
She leaves four children: Jean M. Menze of Orange, CT, Jennifer L. Clark of East Dennis, MA, Joanne E. Adams of Orange, Gordon K. Clark of Seattle, WA; her sister, Brenda B. Buck of Athol and two brothers, Ronald F. Banks of Walpole, NH, Bruce R. Banks of Athol; and three grandchildren, Ryan P. Maillet of Cranston, RI, and Danielle J. Adams and Joseph L. Adams of Orange.
Elaine grew up in Petersham and graduated from the Petersham Center School. She resided in Athol for forty-seven years before moving to Orange in 2003, and then to East Dennis in 2007.
Elaine enjoyed many jobs and hobbies. She worked for Plotkin's Furniture, sold Avon products, worked as a teacher's aide in the Athol school system, as an administrative assistant in Dr. Chi's office in Athol, and in the billing department at Athol Memorial Hospital.
She shared fellowship and membership in the Athol-Orange Baptist Church and the Petersham Congregational Church where she taught bible school, Sunday school and facilitated prayer support groups. She was also a leader for the Campfire Girls.
Family and faith were integral to Elaine's life. She enjoyed gardening, singing, dancing, needlepoint, and antiquing. Elaine will be remembered for her enthusiasm, positive outlook, and glowing smile. She was always able to find goodness and wonder in any situation. Elaine touched many lives and will be dearly missed.
Calling hours will be held Friday, May 21, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street, Athol, MA.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Athol-Orange Baptist Church, Church Street, Athol.
Burial in East Street Cemetery, Petersham will be at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Athol-Orange Baptist Church or the Polycystic Kidney Foundation (www.pkdcure.org).
