Elaine A. Lawton, of Athol, Massachusetts, born on February 24, 1940, in Athol, MA, entered into eternal rest on September 30, 2023. Elaine, a compassionate and loving soul, was a woman of unwavering faith, and her devotion to Catholicism was a cornerstone of her life. Known for her dedication, she was the heart and soul of her family.
Elaine was an active figure in her community years ago, having owned and operated Lajoie's Restaurant with her first husband Roger Lajoie. Her dedication and hard work were well-known, but she was also a woman of many passions. She found solace and joy in her garden, cultivating both vegetables and flowers equally. She cherished any time she could spend with family at the ocean, she loved being on the beach as well as enjoying her favorite seafood, lobster. An avid reader, she was often found with a religious book in hand, lost in a world of words.
As a devoted Catholic, Elaine attended Mass regularly, assisting with various duties at St. Francis, such as maintaining the candles and bringing and arranging fresh flowers. Her faith was not just a part of her life; it was a part of her essence. In the words of Matthew 5:16, "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Elaine's light shone brightly in her actions, her love, and her devotion, and will continue to guide her loved ones.
Elaine is survived by her children, Jeff (Donna) Lajoie, Debbie (Tim) Herk, Lisa (David) Thompson, Mike (Cheryl) Lajoie, and Kathy Roberts and Dan Leavitt. She also leaves behind a legacy of love with her 18 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and her brothers, Wayne and Raymond Hachey. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Leah Hachey, her beloved husbands, Elwyn Lawton and Roger Lajoie.
