Eleanor R. (Dyer) French

Eleanor R. French Athol – Eleanor R. (Dyer) French, 98, of Benton Place died Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare.      She was born in East Swanzey, New Hampshire, June 16, 1915, the daughter of Leonard F. and Florence M. (Elmore) Dyer.  Eleanor lived in North Easton where she attended schools, moving to Athol in the 1930’s, attending Athol High School.        Eleanor worked at the L.S. Starrett Company for eight years during the 50’s and was a member of the Athol Congregational Church.  She enjoyed flowers and flower gardening, feeding and watching the birds of all types, and most especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.        Her husband of many years, John W. French died in 1986.  She leaves two daughters, Carole Young of Bower Bank, ME and Dottie Ashe of Amherst; four grandchildren, Robert Recos, Paul T. Young, Jr. and Christopher F. Young, a granddaughter, Susanne Recos , five great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.  Besides her husband she was predeceased by a son, John W. French and  two brothers, and four sisters.      A graveside service will be held Friday, June 28, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Silver Lake Cemetery (main gate Silver Lake St. entrance) with the Rev. the Deborah Arnold, pastor of the Orthodox Congregational Church of Petersham , officiating.   There are no calling hours and in lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Eleanor’s memory to the Athol Congregation Church, Book of Memory, 1225 Chestnut Street, Athol, MA 01331.  Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol is directing arrangements.  For further information or to share a memory with the family go to: www.higginsoconnorfuneralhome.com. $(document).ready(function(){ });
