ATHOL- Eleanor C. (Godish) Gregg, 98, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol. She was born in Athol on March 4, 1923; daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Vincent) Godish.
She graduated Athol High School in Athol in 1941 and graduated Nursing School at Worcester City Hospital in 1945. She was one of the first nurses hired at Athol Memorial Hospital and worked there from its opening in 1950 until her retirement. She kept her nursing license active until she was 89, volunteering at blood pressure and flu shot clinics. Eleanor was a life-long care giver. She cared for many family members in their final years, including her mother, husband, brothers, and aunts.
She was an active member of Our Lady Immaculate Church in Athol, she ran their “Attic Treasures” table at the fair for years. She enjoyed word searches, reading magazines, crafts, especially needlepoint. She loved to cook authentic Lithuanian dishes to share with family. Some of her most cherished memories were going on shopping trips with her “granddaughter” Lauren. She lived her final years with her Niece Lori Mousseau and her husband William Mousseau, where she was surrounded by love from family and pets, she learned to like lots of new foods and never missed an episode of jeopardy.
Although she had no children of her own, she was the matriarch of her family and she stepped in as a mother and grandmother to all. She leaves behind five nieces and nephews, Lori Mousseau of Athol, Toni Phillips of Athol, Kelly Perkins of NM, Gina Vinica of CT and Joey Brasssell of PA; nine great nieces and nephews, Lauren Godish, Corby Mousseau, Tia Mercer, Myles Perkins, Ashlyn Saavedra, Kevin Sabatello, Craig Sabatello, Kristi Melanson, and William Oliver IV. She also leaves behind many cousins; of those there were a few she was very close to including Kathleen Putnam, Mike Dube, and Amy Sanden.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband of 60 years John Gregg, and her brothers Frank Godish and Leon Godish.
