Eleanor D. Harris
Orange – Eleanor D. Harris, 92, of 20 Shingle Brook Road, died Friday, June 22, 2012 at Heywood Hospital in Gardner. She has been a resident of the Baldwinville Nursing Home for the past year where she made many friends.
She was born in Athol September 11, 1919, the daughter of Leslie M. and Florence J. (Davidson) Harris. She grew up in Athol, graduating from Athol High School in 1936. She later moved to West Palm Beach, FL where she lived for 32 years, returning to Athol for several years and for the past 26 years has resided in Orange. Eleanor worked at the Atlantic National Bank in West Palm Beach for 27 years, retiring as head teller. After returning to Athol she worked at the Athol Credit Union for five years. After retirement Eleanor and Margaret traveled to England and Scotland, Hawaii, and Alaska. She was a member of Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church, enjoyed dancing, especially attending the Petersham Town Hall dances on Saturday evenings in past years. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and her cat “Bootieâ€.
She leaves two nieces; Lesley J. Henley and her husband Joe of Orange and Janice Noble and her husband Nick of Worcester; a nephew Jonathan C. Pryor and his wife Kay of Bakersfield, VT; grand nieces and nephews, Joseph T.D. Henley and his wife Sylvie, Katherine Henley, Martha Clayton and Jonathan E.H. Noble; two great grand nephews, Gibson Bankey and Alex Henley; and a great grandniece Susi Bankey. She was predeceased by two sisters, Virginia Pryor and Margaret Harris.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Silver Lake Cemetery with Mr. Richard Noble, officiating. There are no calling hours and in lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in Eleanor’s name be made to: the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Grand Central Station, P.O.
