Athol- Eleanor M. Lawson, 85, formerly of Athol, passed on into Spirit on Friday, October 4, 2013 with her family by her side at the Ichabod Washburn Hospice, Worcester, following a short illness. She was born on August 3, 1928, the daughter of Thomas and Marjorie (Best) Hebert.
Eleanor attended Athol schools and graduated from Orange High School in 1946. She went on to work as a secretary for Leavitt Machine Company in Orange where she met her husband Herman Lawson. She was an office assistant in his Chiropractic practice, starting out in New Hampshire and then in Athol.
Eleanor loved spending as much time as possible with the family that she adored. She enjoyed taking walks on wooded trails, visiting the Quabbin Reservoir with her late husband, and was also an avid reader. In addition, she studied Psychology at Mount Wachusett Community College.
She was a past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Pioneer Valley Chiropractic Association, a member of the Swift River Historical Society, the Trustees of Reservations, and of the Franklin County ARC.
Eleanor leaves behind her son Thomas Lawson and his wife Eileen of Tyngsboro, her daughters, Janet Lawson of Leominster, and Nancy Pollard and her husband Herbert of New Braintree, one brother, Peter Hebert of Athol, eight Grandchildren: Eric Williams and his wife Cheryl, Kathryn Lawson, Daniel Lawson, Amelia Ickler and her husband Michael, Erin Glidden and her husband Zebulon, Elaine Pollard, Stephanie Pollard, and Thomas Pollard, as well as five great-grandchildren: Lindsey Williams, Brett Williams, Andrew Williams, Meaghan Glidden and Aimee Ickler, along with many nieces and nephews, and close friend, John Holston of Orange .
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Dr. Herman Lawson (2005), her daughter Joyce Lawson (2008), and one brother and three sisters.
A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday October 8, 2013 from 9:00am-10:30am in the Petersham Orthodox Congregational Church, 21 North Main St. Petersham, MA. A memorial service will immediately follow at 10:45am in the church. Burial will follow in the East Street Cemetery, Petersham.
