Eleanor H. Jennings

ATHOL - Eleanor H. Jennings, 98 formerly of 33 Stevens St., Athol, died Thursday, October 25, 2007 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol, MA. Born in Old Saybrook, CT, on December 28, 1908, she was one of fourteen children born to the late Irvin H. and the late Mary Margaret (Hause) Huff. She attended Westboro High School graduating in 1927 as the class Valedictorian. She attended Framingham State College and received her teaching certificate in 1928. She began her teaching career in Royalston where she taught grades 1-4. She married Ernest Jennings in 1941. They bought a house on Stevens St. in Athol in 1943 and began their family. She returned to teaching in 1953 in Phillipston. Her husband Ernest died in April of 1955. In the fall of 1955 she was hired by the Athol School District where she taught for eighteen at years at Sanders St., Lyman Ward, Lake Park and Silver Lake Schools, retiring in 1973. She was a member of the Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church and was active in the Women's Group at that church for many years. Eleanor enjoyed gardening and traveling and was the family historian. She loved her family and home very much. She leaves two daughters: Rena Savoy and husband Herman of Athol, Mary Martin and husband Roy of Westminster, and one son: Ernie Jennings and wife Beverly of Colorado Springs, CO; her brother Robert Huff of Keithville, La.; seven grand children; 10 great grand children and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her six sisters and her seven brothers. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 10th at 12Noon in the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street, Athol. Burial will be Private. No calling are scheduled.
