OTTER RIVER - Eleanor L. "Ellie" (Thayer) Sawicki, 82, of 107 Main St., Otter River, died Thursday, September 17, 2009 at home after an illness.
She was born in East Templeton on September 29, 1926, the daughter of the late Earl and the late Mildred (Webber) Thayer.
Ellie was raised in East Templeton and graduated from Templeton High School with the class of 1944. She has resided in Otter River with her husband, Chet, since their marriage in 1946. She worked for the former Mead Container Company and New England Wooden Ware in Gardner as an Inspector for many years, retiring in 1988. Ellie was a past member of the Otter River Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary and St. Martin Church in Otter River.
Eleanor enjoyed her crafts. She knitted and crocheted many beautiful gifts for her family. She enjoyed spending time with Chet in their flower and vegetable gardens. In the fall, she and Chet would spend countless hours canning fruit and vegetables to share with their family. In her later years, she enjoyed sitting and listening to the Red Sox and Patriots. But most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always considered them her greatest treasure.
She leaves her husband of 63 years, Chester R. "Chet" Sawicki of Otter River; her daughter, Linda Morrilly of Avondale, AZ; her son, Keith Sawicki and his wife Karen of Rangeley, ME; her sister, Dorothy "Dot" Kimball of Orange; five grandchildren, Peter Sawicki, Thomas Sawicki, both of Freeport, ME, Carrie Tomany of Fremont, NH, David Morrilly of Iowa City, IA, Jennifer Wahlbrink of Avondale, AZ, thirteen great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Feeney, Mildred Ellinwood; by two brothers, Earl Thayer, Myron Thayer; and by her son-in-law, Bernard Morrilly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Martin Church, 247 State Road, Otter River. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, September 20, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Templeton Fire Department Rescue Team, 2 School Street, Baldwinville, MA 01436.
