GARDNER- Elizabeth E. "Wally" (Wolaske) Glinski, 93, of Gardner, died Friday, May 4, at Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Elizabeth was born February 21, 1925, in Gardner, daughter of the late Wladislaw and Alexandra (Poliks) Wolanske. She graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1943, and Mass General Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. During her career as a registered nurse, Elizabeth worked for the Heywood Factory, Mass General, Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, Maine Medical Center, and Heywood Hospital.
Betty was an active member of St, Joseph's Parish and enjoyed volunteering to work at the annual fall Polish Festivals and many bake sales. She was also a member of the St. Joseph's Holy Rosary Sodality. She and her husband spent many winter months in Florida and especially enjoyed watching the Red Sox at spring training in Winter Haven. Betty, her husband, and friends often traveled across the state to listen, enjoy, and dance to Polish polkas by their favorite orchestras. Auntie "B" loved convertible cars and her nieces and nephews were especially thrilled when she let them drive with the top down. She was an accomplished golfer getting a hole in one and being the first Gardner Women's City Champion in 1972. She also enjoyed skiing and playing tennis. Elizabeth was a member of the Worcester County Women's Golf Association and was able to golf at many private and public member courses throughout the state. She was also a member of the Gardner Golden Agers, and a former member of the Gardner Municipal Golf Course. She loved cooking. Her special chunky applesauce will be missed.
Her husband of 35 years, Stanley V. Glinksi, died October 6, 2006. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Dr. Stephen Wolanske and wife, Peggy, Benjamin Wolanske and wife, Jenny, and Thadeus Wolanske and wife, Irene, and two sisters, Stephanie Jasinski and husband, Joseph, and Jadwiga Bagdonas and husband, Gus, and one stepson, Jeffrey P. Glinski.
She leaves one step son, Barry A. Glinski of Worcester; one step daughter, Lorelle Kublbeck of Ashburnham; one sister, Celia Zoldak, wife of the late Adam "Eddie" Zoldak; many nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 17, at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell St., Gardner. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
