Elizabeth Phelan, 81, of 34 Abbott Street in Gardner, passed away Wednesday February 11, 2009 at the Beaumont Rehabilitation Center in Northborough, MA with her loving niece, Jane Wormann, by her side.
Bette was born on August 30, 1927 in Gardner, MA the daughter of John and Helen (Bachmann) Phelan, residing there for most of her life along with living in Boston for a portion of time.
She attended nursing school for a period of time. Bette worked for Garden City Travel Services, Inc. along with WHDH-TV for over a decade along with many other radio and television stations. Most recently she worked for the Visiting Nurses Association before her retirement.
Bette was known for her love of literature, a passion for all things British, quick wit, and her extensive traveling. One of her favorite things was entertaining and cooking for her friends and family. Bette enjoyed being independent all her life, as she never married or had children. Nevertheless, her life was full of love.
She leaves her nieces Jane and her husband Wade Wormann of Northborough, MA, JoAnn Conley of Newton, and Susan Conley of Brattleboro, Vermont; also nephews John Conley of Duxbury, Chuck Conley of Belmont, and Bill Conley of Dummerston, Vermont along with their families.
She was predeceased by both of her sisters, Nancy M. LaPoint of Gardner who died in 2004 and also JoAnn Conley of Brockton who died in 1989.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 16, 2009, from the John H. Mack Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church 105 Nichols St., Gardner.
Calling hours will be held at Mack Funeral Home on 91 Vernon Street in Gardner from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2009.
