ATHOL - Ellen A. (Starkey) Finn of Athol, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
She was born in Westmoreland, NH, on December 30, 1917. She was the daughter of the late William and Bertha (Jarvis) Starkey.
Ellen grew up in Westmoreland, NH where she attended local elementary schools graduating from high school in Keene, NH. Ellen was employed by the L.S. Starrett Company during World War II. She was a committed Chaplain, Secretary and Treasurer of Margery Morton Athol Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Woman’s Auxiliary of the American Legion of Athol and a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church in Athol. Ellen enjoyed gardening, baking, knitting, reading and being outdoors in her flower gardens. She enjoyed picnics with her family at Silver Lake, yearly trips to Boston in April with family and traveling the U.S., Canada and Ireland. She was a woman of Christian Faith who was especially loved by her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew her.
She leaves a daughter, Margaret A. Trippel and her husband Lou of Lebanon, PA; Grandchildren: Todd A. Dexter and his wife Marcia of Warwick, MA, Chad A. Dexter and his wife Kelly of Weathersfield, VT, Sean M. King and his wife Erica of Queensbury, NY, Shane A. King and his fiancée Sarah Larsen of Athol, MA; Great-grandchildren: Emily R. Seymour of Warwick, MA, Daniel and Jonathan Dexter of Weathersfield, VT; Elyssa and Jameson King of Queensbury, NY. Nephews: Robert R. Finn of Athol, MA, William Starkey Jr. of Keene, NH, Ronald Starkey and his wife Carol of Keene, NH.
She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years: Michael G. Finn Jr., who passed Oct. 17 1978, her daughter: Janice L. King who passed January 18, 2013; her son: Michael G. Finn III: who passed in 1942, her brother: Linn Starkey, Sr., and her nephew: Linn Starkey Jr.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday July 5, 2017 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange, MA.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, July 5th at 11:00 am in the Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Colonel Timothy Bigelow chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Worcester Chapter, 140 Lincoln Street Worcester, MA 01605.
