ORANGE - Ellen M. (Harshbarger) Lawton, 90 of 383 E. River St., Orange, died Saturday, June 27, 2009 in the LaChance Care Center, Gardner with her daughters at her side.
She was born in South Deer Park, Washington, on August 18, 1918, the daughter of the late Cloyde Harsbarger and the late Maude (Tartar) (Harsbarger) Zetty.
Mrs. Lawton worked as an assembler and was employed by the J.F. McElwain Shoe Company for over twenty years, she retired in 1981.
In her youth she played Hawaiian guitar, loved swimming and occasionally went hunting with her big brother. She enjoyed candlepin bowling, crossword puzzles, and bingo.
She moved to the LaChance Care Center in October of 2008 where she was welcomed with the kindness and respect so deserved by a much loved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She leaves two daughters, Nancy E. Anderson and her husband Kenneth of West Royalston, Linda L. Jameson and her husband Daniel of Raymond, NH; four grandchildren, Debra White of Deerfield, NH, Michael Anderson of Troy, NH, Keith Jameson of Raymond, NH, Becky Demmons of Mason, NH; seven great grandchildren, Olivia, MaryClare, Sadie, Allison, Katherine, Evan, Alyssa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years Charles Lawton who died in 1988 and by her brothers, Perry Harshbarger and Everett Harshbarger and his wife Doris.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street, Athol. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
A calling hour will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2009, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to a charity of one's choice.
