GARDNER - Ellwood Frank Finken, 96, formerly of Edgell Street in Gardner, died Thursday, December 10, 2009 in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner.
He was born in New York, NY, on January 24, 1913, the son of the late Edward D. and the late Philliphana (Persan) Finken.
Mr. Finken was raised and educated in New York City, NY. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II as Chief Electrician, receiving the Mediterranean War Zone Bar, Atlantic War Zone Bar, Merchant Marine Combat Bar, and Pacific War Zone Bar. He worked for the Fairchilds Camera and Instrument Company in Long Island, NY for over twenty years. He began working as an electrician and retired as the Plant Engineer in 1975. Mr. Finken has resided in Gardner since the early 1970's. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time with this family.
He leaves one daughter, Elizabeth Levitt and her husband David of Mastic, NY; two grandsons, James E. Holt and his wife Deirdre of Winchendon, John H. Holt II and his wife Heather of Mastic, NY; and two great granddaughters, Laura R. Holt and Sarah E. Holt, both of Winchendon.
He was predeceased by his wife, Vivian Fraser, in 1998.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, December 13, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon Street, Gardner. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
Graveside services will be held Monday, December 14, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Wildwood Cemetery, West Street, Gardner.
