ATHOL - Elwin Earl Bacon, age 68, of Athol died Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at home in Athol. Elwin was born July 1, 1949 in Athol, MA. He is the son of the late Earl Bacon.
He grew up in Athol and lived in Athol all of his life. After high school he served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War from 1967 until 1969, and was recalled during the Persian Gulf War in 1991.
Elwin was employed as a farrier for 26 years and also worked for L. S. Starrett Company for 24 years. He was very active in the community and was the founding father of the New England Equestrian Center, he founded the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter of Athol, and served as constable and president for the Athol Conservation Area for over 40 years.
He is survived by two daughters: Kelly Boudreau and her husband David of Orange, and Elisha Becker and her husband Jon of Phoenix, MD; one sister: Ruthie Allen and her husband David of Athol; one brother: Earl bacon and his wife Debbie of Westminster; He also has three grandchildren; Caleb, Brody and Hunter; two nephews, Derek, and Timothy; one niece, Terrie; dear friend, Robin Warren of Royalston, and his ex-wife and the mother of his children, Kim Isrow of Las Vegas, NV.
He is predeceased by his sister, Judith, nephew, Corey, and grandson, Owen.
The funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon.
