ORANGE - Elwyn T. “Al†Lawton, 82 of 15 Oaklawn Ave, Orange, died Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Quabbin Valley Health Care surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Medford, MA, on August 21, 1932, the son of the late Lester T. and the late Esther (Landerkin) Lawton.
He moved to Athol at a young age and attended Athol Schools. He was educated in Athol and attended UMass Amherst.
Al is a retired veteran of the U.S. Army serving 43 years from 1949-1992. While in the Army he served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Athol Mason's. Al loved serving his country in the Army. He enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren.
He leaves his wife of 6 years: Elaine A. (Hachey) Lawton, two daughters: Karen Lawton of Worcester, Robin Brockney and her husband Raymond of Worcester; one son: Mark Lawton and his wife Catherine of Dedham; five grandchildren; one great grandson; seven step-children; twenty-four step-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers: Norman and Charlie; by his sisters: Virginia Morris and Margie Mason; and by his stepdaughter: Pauline LaFlamme.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 19 Congress St., Orange. Burial with full military honors will follow in Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Rd, Winchendon, Ma 01475.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange, Ma 01364. .
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675
