GARDNER - Estelle M. (Penski) Deslauriers, 93, of 261 Matthews Street, Gardner, died on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at home after a long battle with melanoma.
She was born in Gardner on February 12, 1917, the daughter of the late Anthony and the late Frances (Kaminski) Penski.
Estelle graduated from Gardner High School with the class of 1935. She was a head pastry cook at the Old Mill Restaurant in Westminster for thirty-four years until her retirement in 1980. Mrs. Deslauriers was a member of the Polish American Veterans Auxiliary, Polish American Social League, Holy Rosary Sodality of St. Joseph's Church and the Golden Age Club. She loved crocheting and knitting for her church's fairs and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, David Deslauriers and his wife Jean of Parrish, Florida; her six wonderful grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Estelle was predeceased by her loving husband of fifty-four years, Ralph Deslauriers, on April 2, 1992; also by her loving daughter, Barbara LeRoy, on July 17, 1991; by her grandson, Kevin LeRoy, on November 11, 2006; and by her great grandson, Nicholas LeRoy, in November of 2009. She was also predeceased by four brothers, Stanley Penski of Worcester, Henry and Edward Penski of Gardner and Sigmund Penski of Athol.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours will be held Friday, January 21, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant Street, Gardner.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner, MA 01440.
