Esther M (Wright) Mitchell

Athol- Esther M. (Wright) Mitchell, 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday August 22nd, 2013 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare with her family by her side. She was born on February 6th, 1920 in Athol, the daughter of the late Leo and Mary (Soucie) Wright. Esther grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School in 1937. She worked for L.S. Starrett for several years before she met her late husband Chester Mitchell. They married on February 16th, 1946 and were married for 58 years until his passing in 2004. Esther belonged to the Ellinwood Bowling League and was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church. She enjoyed knitting, baking and candlepin bowling. She was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Esther leaves behind three sons; Bruce Mitchell and his wife Kathy of Orange, Gregg Mitchell and his wife Donna of Athol, and Randy Mitchell and his wife Cindy of Athol, one sister; Norma Lively of Athol, a sister-in-law; Terry Wright of Auburn. She leaves seven grandchildren; Lisa Merritt and husband Chris, Jennifer Feyrer and husband Todd, Glenn Mitchell and wife Kate, Amy Mitchell and fiancé Neil MacDonald, Kate Dodge and husband Chris, Sarah Charette and husband Tyler, and Laurin Mitchell. She also leaves five great-grandchildren and one on the way. Esther was predeceased by her husband Chester “Jake”Mitchell (2004), and one brother; Earl “Billy” Wright (2005). The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff at Quabbin Valley Healthcare for the kind and loving care that Esther experienced during her stay with them. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations in Esther’s name be made to the Building Fund or Roof Fund of Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol, MA 01330. Calling hours will be held from the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange on Saturday August 24, 2013 from 9:00am-10:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30am in Our Lady Immaculate Church192 School Street Athol. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Athol.
