Athol – Evelyn Flora (Battaini) Merron, 87 of Athol, passed away on Monday August 6, 2018 in Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
Evelyn was born in Athol on February 24, 1931 to the late Raymond Battaini and the late Flora M. (MaCauley) Battaini. She grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School. She has been a lifelong resident of Athol.
She worked at the L. S. Starrett Company and was also a co-owner of L & M Catering with her husband Donald. Evelyn was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church, a member of the former Daughters of Isabella and a member of AARP, where she held the position of secretary.
She was an avid Bingo player, loved the casino, playing poker and bridge. She was an avid Boston sports fan, enjoyed traveling to Italy, Alaska and many other places, going to the ocean and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.
Evelyn is survived by three daughters: Judith Lehtomaki and her husband John of Athol, Denise Day and her husband Thomas of FL, Diane White and her husband Francis of Athol; one son: Michael Merron and his wife Bernadette of Athol; seven grandchildren: Jeremy Lehtomaki, Jordan Lehtomaki, Jacob Lehtomaki, Lindsay Butler, Christopher Day, Kyle Merron, Emilie Merron; ten great grandchildren: Zoe Lehtomaki, Joey Lehtomaki, Shawn Smart, Savannah Gray, Sadey Lehtomaki, Cayden Lehtomaki, Mason Lehtomaki, Jacob Lehtomaki, Chance Butler, Maggie Day; one sister-in-law: Janet Cornellier of Pittsfield; a very close cousin: Joanne Woods of FL; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband: Donald Leo Merron, and her brother: Raymond Battaini.
A calling hour will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange, followed by a service in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
