Evelyn M. (Collette) Cormier

November 17, 1921 — April 2, 2014

Leominster - Evelyn M. (Collette) Cormier died April 2, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was 92.    Mrs. Cormier was born in Leominster on November 17, 1921, one of five children of Livain and Elise M. (Girouard) Collette. She built her first home on Lindell Avenue in Leominster with her husband and love of her life for 43 years, the late Arthur J. Cormier who died on February 25, 1994, and lived with her daughter, Janice "Jan” Doucet, and her husband, Wayne, for the past 15 years. In addition to her daughter, she leaves two grandchildren, Lisa McKee (Gerald McKee), Keith Doucet (Troy Finn), two great grandchildren, Daniel and Carissa McKee, a sister-in-law, Carol Collette, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cormier was predeceased by her sisters, Cecile Miller, Florence Tracy, and Jeanne Kearns, and her brother, Rene Collette.   After graduating from St. Bernard's High School in 1939, Mrs. Cormier lived in Muskegon, Michigan and New York City before settling back in Leominster and retiring from Foster Grant Co. in 1984. Mrs. Cormier loved music and was blessed with a beautiful voice. She performed at jazz clubs in Manhattan and was known for dancing the jitterbug and foxtrot with her husband. Mrs. Cormier traveled extensively in the American West and enjoyed competing in cribbage tournaments and making homemade mile-high apple pies.  Most of all, it meant the world to her to simply spend time with her loving family. She was a member of St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church and the Ladies of St. Anne, as well as the Leominster Senior Center, and attended the Summit Elder Care Program.   A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, April 7, at St. Cecilia's Church, 180 Mechanic Street, Leominster at 10 AM.  Burial will follow at St. Cecilia's Cemetery.   Calling hours are Sunday from 2-4 PM at Simard Funeral Home, 14 Walker Street, Leominster.  Memorial contributions may be made to Harvard School of Public Health Aging and Alzheimer's Research, c/o Dr. William Mair, 90 Smith Street, Boston MA 02120, or to the St. Cecilia's Restorations Fund, 180 Mechanic St., Leominster, MA 01453.  To send an online condolence please visit:  www.simardfuneralhome.com.
