ATHOL - Evelyn Mary (Hammond) Blanchard, known as Babe, age 90, died peacefully on May 8, 2015 in her home surrounded by her loving husband of 73 years, Lawrence M. Blanchard, and her daughter Sharon Brighenti and her husband, Tony.
Babe was born on August 27, 1924 in Lowell, MA., daughter of Philamon (Sevigney) and Henry Hammond. She married her beloved husband on June 6, 1942.
She is also survived by granddaughters, Laurie Parker and her husband Jeff, and Elizabeth Robinson as well as great grandchildren Sam, Luke, and Logan Parker and Evelyn and Andrew Robinson. She leaves on sister, Arlene M. Chase.
Besides her parents, Babe was predeceased by brothers, Harold, Earl, and Wesley Hammond.
Babe owned and operated Blandens Bridal Salon and The Seventeen Shop in Athol for many years, outfitting many local brides and their wedding parties. She had also worked for the Athol Clothing Company and L. S. Starrett Company.
Babe was a woman of many interest and talents. She loved to oil paint, sew, garden, hook rugs, and create hand sewn quilts.
The great joys of her life were her extensive travels with Lawry; the 28 wonderful winters they spent at Treasure Island, Florida; teaching her grandchildren; and spending time with her family and loved ones.
A calling hour will take place on Monday, May 11, 2015 from 9:15 -10:15 A.M. at Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home 110 New Athol Rd. Orange. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School Street, Athol at 11:00 A.M.
