Evelyn J. L. Wyman

ATHOL - Evelyn J. L. (Gates) Wyman, 101, of 821 Daniel Shays Highway, Athol, and formerly of Orange, died Friday, April 24, 2009 in the Athol Memorial Hospital. She was born in Athol on January 18, 1908, the daughter of the late Ralph W. and the late Malvina (Duval) Gates. Mrs. Wyman grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1926. She worked as a bookkeeper for the former Crofford and Tyler Company of North Dana, and later worked as a stenographer for the L. S. Starrett Tool Company. She was a member of the Athol-Orange Emblem Club, the St. Mary's Women's Club, and the Orange Senior Citizens Club. She enjoyed playing bingo and cribbage, and was an avid reader. She had a passion for music and enjoyed line dancing and playing the piano. She leaves one son, Benjamin W. Skinner, Jr. of Petersham; one daughter, Margerite H. Vitello and husband Charles of Orange City, Florida; one son-in-law, Winthrop Carter; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, sixteen great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles J. Wyman who died in 1993; by her first husband, Benjamin W. Skinner, Sr. who died in 1957; and by her daughter, Doris L. Carter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 19 Congress St., Orange. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2009 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main St., Athol.
