ATHOL - Frances P. (Gabrs) Piro, 82 of 331 Chestnut Street, Athol, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Athol, on April 28, 1930, the daughter of the late Stanley and the late Ursula (Saraponaite) Gabrs. She grew up in Athol and attended Athol schools. Frances worked at the Athol Plastics Company as a supervisor for many years.  She was very active on the Athol Democratic Committee and helped on several of Ted Kennedy's campaigns.   She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church.  She enjoyed going antiquing with her husband Leo and taking trips to Hinsdale Race Track and Foxwoods.  She was a great cook; she loved to read and was a dance instructor for several years.  She especially enjoyed dancing the jitterbug.   She leaves her beloved husband of 62 years, Leo L. Piro; two daughters, Julie Piragis and her husband Dennis of Athol, DiAnn Zichella of Athol; three sons, Leo Piro, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Orange, Rick Piro of Holland, VT, Stanley Piro and his wife Susan of Orange; one sister, Jennie Evans of California; eight grandchildren, Sherri Maynard and her husband Joseph, Jaime Hume and her husband Lorne, Ryan Piragis and his wife Sarah, Joey Zichella, Leo Piro III, Michael Piro, Adam Piro, Stephanie Zimmerman, Nicole Zichella; ten great grandchildren, Natasha Piro, Colby Hume, Logan Hume, Gabriel Hume, Kacie Piragis, Avery Piragis, Aidan Zichella, Damon Zichella, Gianna Zichella, Vinny Zichella; one great great grandchild, Rylee Walsh and several nieces and nephews.. She was predeceased by her brother, Stanley Gabrs and by her sister, Nattie Jaiceris Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange.  Burial will be private at a later date A calling hour will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2013 from 10 - 11 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Gardner Visiting Nursing Association, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440.
