Francis J. Kennedy, a creative and talented spirit, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2024. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on June 19, 1937. As a child, he moved to Leominster MA and later proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Throughout his life, Francis was known for his heartwarming personality, artistic talent, and unwavering devotion to his Catholic faith. As a Physiatric Orderly in the healthcare sector, Francis served others with kindness and compassion, a testament to his nurturing nature. In his leisure time, he was an accomplished artist of American Folk Art. He had a deep love for the great outdoors, often retreating to nature for camping and fishing trips, especially his time with his younger son Mike horn pout fishing down at the “resy”.
Francis was a man of many passions, but what mattered most to him were his beloved wife, Geraldine, his family, and the joyous Christmas season. Though he lived his final year in his new house in Winchendon his Ashburnham family homestead of nearly 50 years was always and will always be home, filled with warmth and laughter, especially during the holidays. Francis's love for his family was paramount and equally matched by his love for the many dogs he had over the years. His love, kindness, and zest for life will be remembered and cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his sons, Joseph and Michael Kennedy, his daughter-in-law Roxanne Rooney-Kennedy, and his grandsons, Steven and Robert Rooney. Francis was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Sara Kennedy, and his cherished wife, Geraldine Kennedy.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Francis's life and legacy at a viewing on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 5:00 pm at the Mack Family Funeral Homes, 105 Central Street, Gardner, Massachusetts, 01440, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 pm. Interment will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 11 am at Saint John’s Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA.
