ATHOL A¢a‚¬" Francis A¢a‚¬A"FrankA¢a‚¬A_ W. Koczan, 92 of 53 D St., Athol, died Friday, February 27, 2009 in the UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, Worcester, MA.
He was born in Gardner, on April 15, 1916, the son of the late Alexander and the late Rose (Modzer) Koczan.
Mr. Koczan married Marcella A¢a‚¬A"ChubbyA¢a‚¬A_ (Stalilionis) Koczan on August 24, 1940.
He lived in Athol most of his life. Mr Koczan worked at the former Heywood Wakefield Furniture Company in Gardner for 42 years, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, a life member of the Petersham Gun Club, a life member of the American-Lithuanian Naturalization Club, and the Athol Goldene enjoyed fishing and gardening, and was an avid cribbage player.
He leaves his wife of 68 years, Marcella (Stalilionis) Koczan; one daughter, Christine Hause of Athol; a sister, Mary Sawicki of Otter River; two brothers, Charles Koczan and his wife Thelma of Gardner, Stanley Koczan and his wife Nellie of Gardner, one grandson, Sven Hause and his wife Darcie of Leominster MA; two great grandchildren Olivia and Chase and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Loretta Koczan who died in 1934 and Jennie Dymek who died In 1989.
A Mass of Christian Burial will
be held Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Of Assisi Church, 101 Main St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2009, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Murphy Funeral Home 137 Main St., Athol.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to St. Francis Of Assisi Church, 101 Main St., Athol, MA 01331 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
