Frank Swercewski

GARDNER - Frank "Jimmy" Swercewski, 91 formerly of 242 Timpany Blvd., Gardner, died Sunday, December 10, 2006, in the Saints Memorial Hospital, Lowell, MA. He was born in Gardner, on May 9, 1915, the son of the late Bolislaw and the late Jadwiga (Kacien) Swercewski. Mr. Swercewski was a life long resident of Gardner. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. In August of 2000 Mr. Swercewski received the World War II victory medal; the Amercian campaign medal; the Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal with bronze star; the Philippine Liberation ribbon with two bronze stars; the honorable discharge medal pin; and a pin from the Department of Veterans Services. The ceremony was held at the Gardner Heritage State Park Visistors´ Center, he received medals for his service on the USS Wasp of which he was on during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was employed at Heywood Wakefield as a foreman for many years, he retired in 1980. Mr. Swercewski was a communicant of St. Joseph´s Church and was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 905 in Gardner. He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He leaves two daughters, Barbara J. Hann of Nashua, NH; Nancy A. Holden of Milford, DL; one grandson, Christoper Hann of Nashua, NH; and many nieces and nephews, three of whom gave him special support during the last nine years, Henry Sweet of Paxton, Tina Waskiewicz of East Templeton and David Swercewski of Connecticut. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Cecelia (Corapinski) Swercewski who died in 1997; by three brothers, Joseph Swercewski, Anthony Swercewski and Henry Swercewski and by one sister, Sophie Moody. Funeral services with military honors will be held, Tuesday, December 12, 2006, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Joseph´s Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner. Burial will follow in St. Joseph´s Cemetery, Gardner. A calling time will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2006, from 10:00 - 10:30 a.m. at the Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., Gardner. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Gardner V.F.W. Post No. 905, 176 West Street, Gardner, MA 01440.
