HUBBARDSTON - Fred Meagher, 93, formerly of Hubbardston, died Thursday, April 19, 2018 in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner.
He was born in Worcester on August 22, 1924, the son of the late James and the late Lila (Clark) Meagher.
Doc was a veteran of World War II in the Americal Division, serving in the U.S. Army and fought in Bougainville and was wounded in Cebu during the Battle of the Philippine Islands. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, and Bronze Star.
He was employed as a lineman for Mass Electric for over 30 years. He owned and operated saw mills and worked as an electrician's helper with his son.
Fred enjoyed golfing, hunting and was a wonderful storyteller.
He leaves three daughters, Katherine White and her husband George of Templeton, Deb Meagher of Gardner, Jo-Ann Meagher of Gardner; two sons, Steve Meagher of Petersham, Alan Meagher of Hubbardston; two brothers, James Meagher of Rutland, Robert Meagher of Hubbardston; two sisters, June Lindsten of Hubbardston, Eunice Valley of Florida; four grandchildren, David White, Kathy Seavey, Ellis Cole, Jr., Eric Cole; six great grandchildren, Meaghan White, Alan Seavey, Shannon Seavey, Liam Cole, Laci Cole, Austin Cole, one great great grandchild, Connor Sebastian and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Catherine (Ryan) Meagher in 2011, by two sisters, Phyllis McGrath, and Ruth Kingsley and by four brothers, William Meagher, Wendell Meagher, Ralph Meagher and Earl Meagher who was killed in action during World War II.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 12:00 pm in the Brookside Cemetery, Hubbardston.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Wachusett Manor Nursing Home - Activities Department, 32 Hospital Hill Road, Gardner, MA 01440.
