Frederic B. Smith

ATHENS, MI - Frederic Benson Smith passed away Friday, July 11, 2008 in Battlecreek, MI. He was 77 years old. He was born in Northampton, on June 26, 1931, the son of the late Luther W. and the late Edith (Benson) Smith. He was the oldest of four siblings and is survived by his brothers Luther and Raymond Smith and his sister Dorothy Cloukey. Fred served his country bravely, enlisting in the Army in March of 1951. He fought in the Korean War and was stationed in Germany for many years. In 1980, Fred met his 2nd wife Helene (Bromley) Smith. He then became the loving step-father to her four children Norman LeBreton, Joyce Nickett, Kathy Dould and Sheila Adams. He also leaves eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Fred loved motorcycles, sometimes racing himself and even owning his own business "Smitty's Motorcycle Shop". He enjoyed a good game of pool, NASCAR racing, joking and talking with family and walking his dog Murphy. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 23 at 10 a.m. in the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street, Athol. Burial will follow in South Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 22 from 6 To 8 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
