ATHOL - Frederick Leonard, 95 of 622 Pequoig Ave., Athol, died Saturday, October 6, 2007 in the Beaumont Nursing Home, Northbridge, MA. He was born in Athol, on March 18, 1912, the son of the late Frederick and the late Agnes (Flavin) Leonard. He graduated from Athol High School in 1929. He was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed Photography, Golf, and Oil Painting. He owned and operated Leonard Opticians in Athol for many years. He was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church, and a former member of the Athol/Orange Rotary Club. He served during World War II in the Navy from 1943 to 1945 as a Radarman, Second Class specializing in mine sweeping. He leaves one daughter: Patricia Whitman of Athol; five grandchildren: Dede Labonte of Northbridge; Timothy Scanlan of Templeton; Daniel Scanlan of Orange, Paul Whitman III and Mary Whitman of Athol and ten great grandchildren. Frederick was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Murphy who died in 1968, his second wife Mildred Bellew who died in 2000, his grandson Kevin Scanlan who died in 2001; his son-in-law Paul Whitman II who died in 199 Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at 11:00 am in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 10:00 - 11:00 am at the funeral home.
