Frederick Bert Mildren

Bert Mildren, Jr. Athol – Frederick Bertram “Bert” Mildren, Jr., 94, of 1581 Pleasant Street, died Sunday, June 15, 2014 at his home.       Bert was born in Penzance, England, December 11, 1919, the son of Frederick B. and Ethel (Carter) Mildren, Sr.  He came to the United States as an infant to Turners Falls, then lived in Athol almost all of his life.  He graduated from Athol High School in 1938.        After serving in the United States Army during World War II, Bert worked for the former Union Twist Drill for 45 years, retiring as lathe room foreman in 1984.  He was a member, since boyhood, of the Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church where he served on several committees through the years.    He served on the Finance Board for the Town of Athol, loved woodworking, tinkering with his Model A, camping with his family and enjoyed his small farm where he raised cows, chickens, and had a regular egg route for a number of years.       He leaves his wife of 73 years, Constance (Musson) Mildren; his children, Althea Bramhall of Phillipston, Cynthia Stimson, Kenneth Mildren and Norman Mildren, all of Athol; 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his step-mother Katherine and a sister Ruth.       Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church, 40 Island Street, Athol with the Rev. Adam Randazzo officiating.  There will be a calling hour from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.  Burial will follow the funeral at Highland Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations may be made in Bert’s name to: Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church, Living Memorial Fund, 40 Island Street, Athol.
