George Phillip Connor Jr., 75, of Gardner, died Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Alliance Healthcare in Baldwinville.
George was born June 6, 1943, in South Hadley Falls, MA, the son of the late George Phillip Connor Sr. and Helen (Sullivan) Connor. He was a graduate of Gardner High School, class of 1961, and he attended Northeastern University. George retired in 2001, after having worked over 35 years as a civil engineer for the Massachusetts Department of Public Works.
George was a longstanding member of Gardner Municipal Golf Course, as well as a member of the Napoleon Club. He had been an active supporter of Chair City Youth Hockey for many years, serving as coach and board member at various times. In recent years, he was an especially engaged and loving grandfather, frequently travelling across Massachusetts and Connecticut to help out family.
He is survived by his son John P. Connor and his wife Pamela of Lexington, MA; son Dennis H. Connor of Belchertown, MA; sister Helen Merkel of Fort Myers, FL; nephew Peter Merkel and his wife Mary of Lunenburg; grandchildren Jack, Ella, and Chase Connor; and several other nieces and nephews.
George was predeceased by his wife Ruth Ellen (Thompson) Connor, who died in 1992.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 7, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the Mack Family Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
