ATHOL – George R. O. Cook, 96 of Athol, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021 at home.
He was born in Athol on June 16, 1925 to the late Henry L. Cook and the late Inez K. (Litchfield) Cook. He grew up in Athol and was a lifelong resident. George worked at the Box company and Eastern furniture for many years. He was the Assistant Director of Housekeeping at Athol Memorial Hospital for over 25 years. He enjoyed camping and was a Bruins fan. He was very proud of his home and property.
George is survived by two daughters: Peggy Swan and her husband Michael Pierson of Phillipston, Linda Lindblad and her husband Jon of Athens, VT; one grandchild: Terry Mikulskis of Collinwood, TN; one sister Barbara Ames of Sandwich, MA.
He was predeceased by his wife of 75 years: Donna E. (Wells) Cook in 2019, a grandson Jeffrey Swan; two brothers: Henry Cook, Frederick Cook, one sister: Doris Nannery.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange, MA. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Hillside Terrace Athol, MA.
A calling hour will be held from 10:00a.m. – 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home prior to the funeral.
Those attending the funeral are asked to dress casual, jeans are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in George’s memory may be sent to the Athol Animal Shelter, c/o 280 Exchange St., Athol, MA 01331.
