ATHOL - George S. Geikie, born on March 30, 1934 in Athol, passed away on March 8, 2009, at his home in Longs, S.C., after a short illness.
"Stu" leaves behind his former wife of 27 years, Carol Deminico Geikie Keating. He also leaves his two sons, James Geikie and his wife, Betsy, of Athol, and Peter Geikie of Hudson; and his younger brother, Glendon M. Geikie of Westminster; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; a grandson, James Geikie Jr. of Athol, and a step-grandson Josh Noyes and his fiance, Laurie Smith.
He was predeceased by his elder brother, Frank Geikie Jr., his eldest nephew, Bruce Geikie and his long-time companion, Beverly Duxbury.
Stu was a 1952 graduate of Athol High School, had served in the National Guard during the Korean War, was an L.S. Starrett employee for 33 years, and had served on several boards of local government in Athol, including a three-year term on the board of selectmen and on the finance committee. He was also a member of the local Star Lodge of Masons, regional memberships, a member of the Shriner's Melha Temple, and a member of the Athol-Orange Lodge of Elks 1837. He also held the position of president of the home owners association where he lived in South Carolina.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol.
