PETERSHAM - George J. Recos, 75, of 79 Hardwick Road, Petersham, died Sunday, September 7, 2008 at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Petersham on October 18, 1932, the son of the late Gabriel and Anna (Koskie) Recos.
Mr. Recos grew up in Petersham and graduated from Petersham High School. He served during Korean War in the Marines from 1952 to 1954. He was a self-employed builder in Petersham. He was a life member of the Athol D.A.V., Petersham American Legion, the Franco American Club, the Lithuanian Naturalization Club of Athol, and the Quabbin Anglers. He was also a life member of the Athol VFW, acting as Commander from 1999 to 2007, the Athol/Orange Elks and the Orange Gun Club.
He leaves his wife, Shirley (Rathburn) Recos of Petersham; four daughters, Rexine Barnes of Petersham, Sherry Barnes of Orange, Jo-Ann Stone of Athol, Julie Moschetti of Templeton; one son, Eric Recos of Petersham; one sister, Dorothy Smith of Athol; two brothers, Richard Recos of Phillipston, Robert Recos of Chesterfield, and eleven grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother, Gabriel F. Recos.
George was a loving and devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather who had tremendous strength and courage.
Funeral services will be private.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family on Thursday, September 11, 2008 from 6-8 p.a. in the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main St., Athol.
