Georgia B. Canfield

November 25, 1927 — February 7, 2018

GARDNER - Georgia B (Sappington) Canfield passed away having fulfilled her dreams and ambitions. Mostly she lived life fully, maintained her character of choice, pursued her interests, and above all cared for all around her. Georgia was a Gardner resident for the past 20 years after moving here from a short memorable stay in Arizona and nearly 30 years in Warminster PA. She loved her life in Gardner and according to her belief, Gardner offered it all. Georgia was a willing and valuable volunteer at Heywood Hospital for over 16 years, always greeting patients and visitors with a welcoming smile, a verbal hello and an offer to assist, which truly gave her great pleasure and sense of purpose. From an early age, she became an accomplished artist in a variety of media including painting, sculpting, and paper cutting. Many of her works have found their way into homes known and many unknown. She loved the challenge to create what people wanted to fill their life around them. Georgia was the loving wife of 54 years, married to Clifford B. Canfield who left her too early over 17 years ago. As a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she is survived by two sons: Clifford B. Canfield Jr. and his wife Joan of Ambler, Pennsylvania, Mark Canfield and his wife Andrea of Princeton, Massachusetts, and grandchildren Christian, Ashley, and Courtney. A special recent great grandchild, Wesley, was extra special to her, reminding her and us all that life is giving and at the same time fleeting. Georgia was one of those special people who spread friendship far and wide, building many close relationships while living and volunteering in Gardner. Georgia also made great effort to maintain relationships she secured in her early days in New Jersey and while living in Pennsylvania and Arizona. Born in Camden County, New Jersey in simpler times, in 1927, she grew up in West Berlin, New Jersey during the depression which left a lasting impression expressed in her ability to manage her life and help provide for her family. Georgia loved horses from an early age, fulfilling her love through ownership in her teen years and early twenties, never losing her love or ability to capture them in her art work. Her interest and connection with the American west often found its way into her paintings; adventures taken from experiences or photographs. Her home in South Gardner was her canvas and sense of pride before and after her husband passed; constantly providing the working space as her special gallery that can be experienced at every turn and was twice featured in the Gardner news. Georgia will be missed by family and her many friends. Her faith in God brought her to peace with life, love and passion but most importantly with the end of life. She had no misgivings or known regrets. She was a great woman, mom, wife, and special friend to all. Shalom.
