Georgia LaFleur
Athol – Georgia (Alexakis) LaFleur, 90, died Monday, March 10, 2014 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, surrounded by her family.
Georgia was born in Athol, Massachusetts, May 19, 1923, the daughter of Alec and Jenny (Cronis) Alexakis. She grew up in Gardner, graduating from Gardner High School in 1941 and has resided in Athol most of her life.
Georgia worked at the L.S. Starrett Company for 16 years until her retirement in 1986. She had previously worked for Dr. Ivor Muzzy for several years. She was a member of the Athol Congregational Church. Georgia enjoyed taking care of her home, shopping, eating out, but most especially enjoyed spending time with her great grandson Brady.
She leaves a daughter, Sherry Whitney and her husband John of Covina, CA, a granddaughter, Lisa Butinsky and a great grandson, Brady Butinsky, both of Athol. She was predeceased by her husband of many years, Romeo LaFleur on October 12, 1986 and by a brother, John Alexakis.
A funeral service will be held Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol with the Rev. Freda Maier officiating. There are no calling hours and burial will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery.
