BALDWINVILLE - Georgianna T. (Vachowski) Waskiewicz, 98, of 79 Bridge St., Baldwinville, died peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2008 in the Baldwinville Nursing Home, following a brief period of declining health, with her loving family by her side. She lived on her own in Baldwinville up until three weeks ago. She was born in Lomza, Poland on September 23, 1909, the daughter of the late John and Rozalia (Prusinowski) Vachowski. At age 3, she came to the United States, relocating to Baldwinville. Upon moving to the United States, her birth name, Janina, was misinterpreted and translated to Georgianna. Georgianna graduated from Templeton High School with the class of 1927 and then attended the Henry Heywood Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1930. She married the late Michael S. Waskiewicz in 1933, and together they moved to Ashburnham. They later resided in South Ashburnham until returning to Baldwinville in 1953. She worked as a private duty nurse and was also employed by Henry Heywood Hospital, the former Baldwinville Hospital Cottages and the LaChance Center in Gardner. Georgie, as she was affectionately known to her friends, was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Baldwinville, and a former member of the church's Women's Guild. She acted as Eucharistic Minister for the church and also for people of the community. She was a member of the Templeton Golden Agers, the Women's Club of Templeton, and the Heywood Hospital Nursing Alumni Association. She enjoyed painting and was a former member of the Gardner Art Association. She also enjoyed poetry, reading, and traveling. She loved spending time with her family and many friends and most recently spent two weeks with her family at Cape Cod, one of her favorite places. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Michael S. Waskiewicz, who died February 23, 1991; by her two brothers, Joseph Vachowski and John Vachowski; and by her sister, Genevieve Feindel. She leaves her three loving children; her daughter, Ann R. Lepkowski and her husband Richard B. of Gardner; two sons, John A. Wake and his wife Lillian of West Chester, OH, Michael D. Waskiewicz and his wife Patricia of Rochester, NH; two sisters, Stella Maloy of Silver Spring, MD, Mary Ann Dinger of Great Falls, VA; her sister-in-law, Carleen Vachowski of Bridgeton, ME; eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, one great great grandson, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Georgie will be greatly missed by her family and friends and remembered for her strong faith, her kind heart, her giving spirit, her gentle ways and her never-ending positive attitude towards life, love and happiness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Vincent De Paul Church, 1 Forest St., Baldwinville. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gardner. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2008 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the John H. Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., Gardner.
