GARDNER - Gerald “Jerry†J. Douglas Sr., 74 of 98 Marquette St., Gardner, died Tuesday, November 20, 2012 in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner.
He was born in Pierre, SD, on October 8, 1938, the son of the late Thomas and the late Helen (Bonamie) Douglas.
He grew up and was educated in South Dakota. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and ended up stationed at Ft. Devens, MA where he served for 4 years as an MP.
He worked for several years at Collier Keyworth as well as 15 years as a personal caretaker at the Templeton Developmental Center retiring in 2000.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fly, fresh and deepsea fishing. He enjoyed sports, especially the Celtics and NASCAR and was a fan of Dale Earhart Sr.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He leaves his wife of 52 years: June A. (Fucile) Douglas; one son: Gerald "Gerry" Douglas Jr. of Gardner; two grandsons: Michael Douglas and Christopher Douglas of Gardner; two sisters Phyllis Lindbloom and Gail Jacobson; three brothers, Kelley Douglas, Paul Douglas and Dennis Douglas.
He was predeceased by a sister Linda Davis, and by two brothers, Donald Douglas and Thomas Douglas.
Graveside services will be held at a date to be announced in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon, MA 01475.
