Geraldine W. (MacKnight) Carlson

ATHOL - Geraldine Winifred (MacKnight) Carlson died Friday, September 30, 2016 at the Quabbin Valley Health Care Facility. "Jerry" was born on August 26, 1919. She was the youngest sibling of the late James & Mary (Murchie) MacKnight. Jerry grew up in Orange graduating from Orange High School Class of 1937. She was married to Robert L. Carlson & they enjoyed 35 years of marriage until his death in 1982. She was predeceased by three sisters, Mary DeWolf, Katherine Dunn and Arlene Wade, and three brothers Harry, James and Ralph MacKnight and several nieces and nephews. Jerry leaves three sons, Robert Loring II (Ruth), Dexter (Debra) & Severin (Lindy) Carlson. She also leaves four grandchildren, Amy (Damian), Rachel, Christopher (Katelyn) & Nathan (Melissa) Carlson & three great grandchildren, Corinne Szary , Vera Carlson & Miles Carlson. Jerry was employed by The Orange National Bank prior to her marriage and Thompson & Cornerstone Insurance Companies for many years until her retirement. Starting in her earlier years she enjoyed modeling fashion clothes for local business’s and for charity benefits. She enjoyed bowling in the ladies candle pin bowling league in town for many years. She was a member of the Athol Congregational Church, Trotty Veck, Athol Women's Club, and Athol Hospital Auxiliary. Jerry had been a Cub Scout den mother. Jerry was, at the time, the youngest Matron of the Athena Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, located in Orange. She continued her membership with the Arcana Chapter, and received her 75 year recognition in 2013. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Athol Congregational Church, 1225 Chestnut St., Athol, MA. Burial will be private. A Calling Hour will be held on Saturday from 10:00 am – 11:00am at the church.
