Ashburnham-Geraldine Mary (Gettens) Kennedy, 82, died Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boston after an illness.
Geraldine leaves her husband, Francis Kennedy: two sons, Joseph Kennedy and Michael Kennedy and his wife Roxanne Rooney-Kennedy all of Athol; two step-grandsons, Steven Rooney and Robert Rooney; one step-great granddaughter, Briar Rooney and three very special lifelong friends, Donna Devens, Gail Aikey and Annie Erickson.
She was born in Gardner, a daughter of the late Herbert and Josephine (Walsh) Gettens.
She graduated from Fitchburg High School. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service first as a carrier and then as a clerk for 40 years.
She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, going to the casino, going out to dinner and her friends. Geraldine loved to travel, she had gone to Europe traveling to Ireland, France and several other countries. She also loved going to the beach, Nevel's lighthouse and cruises to Bermuda.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, (RT68) West Street, Gardner. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Lamoreux-Smith & Poliks Chapel of the Mack Family Funeral Homes, 105 Central Street, Gardner, MA 01440.
