Gardner – Gerard J. Bernier 85, of Gardner passed away peacefully Saturday May 19, 2012 in Henry Heywood Hospital following a brief illness. He was born December 9, 1926 in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, son of Alfred and Marie Alma (Coulombe) Bernier. Gerard grew up in Jaffrey, NH. and attented schools in Jaffrey and graduated from Conant High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy from December 1944 to December 1946 as a combat crewman in the Naval Air Corps. Gerard later married Margaret M. Conners on October 18, 1952. He worked at Heywood Wakefield Manufacturing Company, Hatton Printing Company, S. Bent and Company. He was a retired woodworker who enjoyed flea markets, post card collecting, model railroads, volunteering at the Lachance Center and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the following clubs: Holy Spirit Church Parish Council charter member, South Gardner Historical Society Charter Member, Gardner Museum, Troop 9 Boy Scouts, Commissioner Troop 9, Scoutmaster of Cub Scout Pack 9&2, Central Ma. Postcard Club, American Legion, Veteran of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus, Acadia Club, Democratic City Committee, Golden Ages and AARP. Gerard leaves behind two sons: John of Richmond, Va, Robert of Amherst, MA, one daughter Carolyn Bernier Elmeer of Manchester, CT. He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Meghan Bernier of Baltimore, MD, Erik Bernier of Washington DC, Sean, Andrea, Alyssa, and Katelyn Elmeer of Manchester, CT; three sisters; Jeanette Beauregard of Gardner, Juliette Cuddihee of Jaffrey,NH;Pauline Butler of Jaffrey,nh Calling Hours will be held at John H. Mack Funeral Home 91 Vernon Street Gardner on Thursday May 24, 2012 from 6pm – 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday May 25, 2012 at 10 a.m. in Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell Street, Gardner. Burial will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery, Gardner.
