ATHOL - Gertrude E. Glennon, 103, of Athol, died Friday, December 21, 2007 in the LaChance Care Center, Gardner. She was born in Athol, on March 27, 1904. She was the daughter of Patrick and Bertha (Cook) Glennon. She graduated from Athol High School in 1922, and from Fitchburg Normal in 1924. She taught school in South Deerfield for two years, then taught in Athol at Ellen Bigelow School from 1924-1971. She was Principal when she retired in 1971. Gertrude was a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association and the National Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of the Athol Historical Society and the Catholic Womens' Club, and was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church. She enjoyed bird watching, and was an avid fan of the Red Sox and Bruins. She leaves three cousins, James E. MacDonald of Athol, MA, John Eaton and his wife Dorothy of Athol, MA, and Dorothy Eaton Root of Santa Barbara, CA. She also leaves five great cousins, Stephen J. MacDonald of Dallas, TX, Marguerite M. Mundell of Athol, MA, Michelle M. MacDonald of Athol, MA, Melissa M. Truhart of Orange, MA, and Melinda M. Powling of Orange, MA. She also leaves six great great cousins A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at 11:00 am in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. No calling hours are scheduled. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to Athol High School Scholarship Association c/o Beverly Tarolli PO Box 338, Athol, MA 01331.
