Gloria Mae  (Flagg) Price

ATHOL - Gloria M. Price of Athol, MA passed away at home on Thursday, December 28th, 2023. She was 86 years old and was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Daniel, in 2002.

Gloria was born on December 5th, 1937 in Keene, NH, and grew up on Twichell Street, in a house that her father Merton Flagg built for her mother Marjorie (Simpson), and their family. While vacationing in California, she met Daniel and they lived in several states before returning to the family home on Twichell St. in Athol with their children. It was her wish that she be able to live out her final days in that home and thanks to the love and care of her family, she was able to do so. She passed peacefully surrounded by those that she loved and that loved her in return.

Growing up, Gloria spent most of her time with her beloved cousins, Jill, Marilyn, and Kay; Jill pre-deceased her in March of 2022.

Gloria worked for a variety of local businesses over the years, including Victory Supermarket and the Athol Daily News, but her greatest joy in life was being the matriarch of her family. She leaves behind four children: Kevin Price (Lynn) of Orange, David Price (Bonnie) of Athol, Sandra Mallet (Randy Gray) of Warwick, and Steven Price (Jennifer) of Lunenburg. You could not meet Gloria without hearing about her six grandchildren (Shauna Olmstead, Eric Price, Melinda Steele, Jefferey Mallet, Randy Price, and Angela Price) and she was especially proud of the fact that she was a GREAT grandmother with ELEVEN great grands (Emma, Laura, Will, Norah, Silas, Liam, Kayla, Jason, Finn, Rylie and Aria). She leaves behind a brother, Douglas Flagg, of Arizona, Jill’s husband and good friend Tom Landry, and two mischievous cats: Caroline and Catherine.

To know Gloria was to love her. She did not have a mean bone in her body and made everyone feel like they were loved whether she had known them for twenty years or twenty minutes. She loved with her whole heart, and would often display happy tears whenever something good happened to someone she cared about. It should be felt as an honor to have known Gloria as she was truly a one-of-a-kind type of woman.

Gloria enjoyed traveling, reading, playing the Sims, ice cream, and Smartfood cheese popcorn. She loved pigs, wolves, and Chris  Helmsworth in a way only those closest to her would understand. Her loved ones will continue to keep her memory alive by passing on her many, many stories. Gloria was not one to make a big fuss, so in lieu of flowers please consider donating to St. Jude’s or the CPRS Warriors fund in her name.

The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to all of Gloria’s caregivers over the last few months; to Edie, Kevin S, Wendy, Richess, and Bonnie  W, this family would have been lost without your love and care for our beloved matriarch.

A calling hour will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2023, from 9:30-10:30 am in the Fiske Murphy & Mack Funeral Home with a funeral service at 11:00 am in the funeral home.
Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery, Hillside Terrace,  Athol, MA
