Gunhild “Gunny” Catherine (Sund) Szymakowski, 95, of Gardner passed
away peacefully in her bed on September 6, 2018.
Born in Gardner on September 28, 1922, she was the daughter of Arvid and
Anna Sund and lived most of her life in Baldwinville, MA.
She is survived by her three daughters, Sally Swan and her husband
Wesley of Athol, MA, Susan Davidson of Ft. Pierce, FL, and Mary
Schonborg and her husband Barry of Westminster, MA; Daughter in law, Janet Szymakowski of Phillipston; brother John Sund and his wife Marion; her sister in law Josephine Ruckey; and her brother in law Bronislaw Kuprewicz. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Szymakowski; her son Stanley Szymakowski Jr; two sisters, Mabel Geyster and Girda Kelly; her brother Bertyl Sund; and several sisters and brothers in law.
Gunny was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 11
great, great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
She attended Gardner schools and had been employed by Simplex Time
Recorder, Seth Thomas, the Templeton Elementary school as a cook and
kitchen manager, and the Templeton Developmental Center.
Gunny was an avid Red Sox fan and was particularly fond of David Ortiz.
She was also talented at crochet and a wonderful cook and baker. Most
of all she loved spending time with her family, in particular
celebrating the holidays, going out for Italian food, and sitting on her
daughter's porch. Her family in turn loved her very much and will
especially remember her for her constant smile, unconditional love, and
her entertaining, and sometimes irreverent, sense of humor.
A calling hour will be held Tuesday, September 11, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. with the funeral beginning at 11:00 A.M. at Mack Family Funeral Home, Lamoureux-Smith & Poliks Chapel, Kevin Mack, Director, 105 Central St., Gardner. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Baldwinville.
