Guy P. Richardson
Athol – Guy Prescott Richardson, 82, of Lake Ellis Road, died Sunday, February 02, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
Guy was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, June 3, 1931, the son of Herbert E. and Kathryn (Sullivan) Richardson. He grew up in North Grafton, graduating from North Grafton High School in 1949. Following his graduation he joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Following his discharge he attended Clark University in Worcester and then went to work for Compton Knowles.
Guy enjoyed the outdoors in his younger years having enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping which led him to become a game warden covering the Athol area from 1966 until his retirement in 1980 due to health issues. He also worked for Hume Equipment in Orange for several years, enjoyed working in his yard and barn. He loved to cook and make homemade candy.
Guy was a longtime communicant and choir member at St. Andrews Episcopal Church while living in Grafton and later became an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Athol for many years.
He leaves his wife of 36 years, Kathleen (Gray) Richardson; his step-son, Michael Hickey and his friend Jill Robert, both of Charleston, NH; his two adopted granddaughters, Eve and Christine Reppas; a sister, Kay E. (Dowd) Paige of Auburn and 15 nieces and nephews. Guy was predeceased by two brothers, Howard L. Richardson in 1985 and Russell E. Richardson in 2005.
At Guy’s request there will be no formal services. A private graveside service will be held at Silver Lake Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers the family suggests those wishing to make a contribution in Guy’s name may be made to the Athol Animal Shelter, for the care of animals, c/o the Athol Police Department, 280 Exchange Street, Athol, MA 01331.
