Harold B. McGivern, Jr.
Athol – Harold B. “Junior†McGivern, Jr., 74, of Main Street, died Sunday, March 29, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family.
Junior was born June 26, 1940 in Holland, Vermont, the son of Harold B. and Hattie (Woodward) McGivern, Sr. He grew up in Holland and Newport Vermont where he attended schools and since the 1970’s has resided in Athol.
Junior worked at many jobs through the years working as a bartender, the Athol Table Shop, The Athol Shoe Shop and for the past twenty years has delivered the Worcester Telegram, which he did right up until his illness, the Boston Globe and the New York Times throughout the area.
He was an avid bingo player and worker at the Athol-Orange Elks and the Athol American Legion, loved his pet rabbit “mo charlie†and his dog “Gizmoâ€, watching television especially the Boston Red Sox never missing a game, but most especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Junior loved helping others and making people laugh.
His wife of 25 years Dianne L (Guyer) McGivern died in 2007. He leaves his children, Harold B. McGivern, III, Kevin McGivern, Sue Patterson, Diane McGivern, Donna McGivern; his step-children, Monica Bussiere, Sandra Strom, Cathy Strom, Brenda Bacigalupo and Robert H. Strom, Jr. He also leaves his special granddaughter’s Mandy and Kayla and a great grandson Alex as well as many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was from a family of many brothers and sisters. Besides his wife he was predeceased by a son Mark McGivern.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, April 4, 2015 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Athol American Legion, 325 Pequoig Ave. Athol.
