Hazel L. Simmermon
Peterborough, NH – Hazel L. (Poole) Simmermon, 92, formerly of Woodland Drive in Athol and Sudbury died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough.
Hazel was born July 7, 1921 in Franklinville, New Jersey, the daughter of Walter and Rose (Trimnell) Poole. She grew up in New Jersey, graduating from Clayton High School. She lived in many different areas as her husband was a minister, moving to Athol in 1989 from Sudbury where she and her husband had resided for 26 years.
Besides being a homemaker Hazel worked at Walter’s Manufacturing in Sudbury for 15 years, retiring in 1985. She had previously worked as a telephone operator for several years and after moving to Athol owned and operated Athol Trains with her husband Bill.
She leaves a son; William Simmermon and his wife Yvonne of Tonasket, WA; four grandchildren, Bob, Lisa, Jennifer and Kelley and seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, A. William Simmermon died in 2000 and two daughters, Lois Costello died in 2010 and Ruth Heald died in 2013.
A graveside service will be held at New Town Cemetery in Sudbury at the convenience of the family. Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol is directing arrangements. For further information or to share a memory with the family go to:
