Helen Chastney

Helen (Cole) Chastney, 84, of 41 Lombard Avenue, Athol, died Monday in Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol after a long illness. She was born in Courtland, NY, March 31, 1919, daughter of the late John W. and Nora T. Cole and lived here many years. Her husband, Frank Chastney died in 1984. Mrs. Chastney was a communicant of St. Francis Church in Athol and was an avid reader. Many years ago, she worked at the former Grants Department Store and the former Fishman's Department Store, both in Athol. She is survived by four sons, Michael Chastney of Athol, Dennis Chastney of Kittery, ME, Mark Chastney of Athol and Shawn Chastney of Santa Ana, CA.; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A son, Patrick Chastney and a sister, Rita Cole, died predeceased her. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service in J. EDWARD MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 137 Main St., Athol, Saturday, November 29 at 10AM. A calling hour will be held from 9-10 AM Saturday. Burial in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol will be private and at the convenience of the family.
