ATHOL - Helen Rita (Tatro) Kennett, 93 of Athol formerly of Orange, died Sunday, September 25, 2011 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol.
She was born in Sheldon Springs, VT, on August 8, 1918, the daughter of the late Aldo and Lillian (Lumbar) Tatro.
She was the owner and operator of Kennett’s Lodging Home for Veterans for 18 years, retiring in 1981. She also worked at the Athol Daily News and she enjoyed her co-workers at Grants Department Store and Cass Toy Company.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Orange, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and cooking.
She leaves two sons: Robert Lanoue of Athol, Richard Kennett of Greenfield; two
daughters, Margaret Akey of Vernon, VT, Helene Baker of Golden, CO; one step-son: Leonard Kennett of Florida; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her first husband Maurice Lanoue who died in 1941, her second husband William H. Kennett who died in 1975; by her daughter Colleen Kennett; by one step daughter: Lorraine Capron; by her son Ronald A. Lanoue; by one step son Lynwood Kennett; by her brother, Robert Tatro, by two half brothers, Merton Tatro and Samuel Tatro; by her half sister Lorraine Thayer and by her grandson Robert T. Lanoue Jr. who died in 2002
A graveside service will be held next Friday, October 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Silver Lake Cemetery, Silver Lake Street, Athol. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that donations be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society – New England Division Office, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
