Helen W. (MacKenzie) Larry

Helen W. Larry Athol – Helen W. (MacKenzie) Larry, 87, of 304 Riverview Avenue, died Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare.      Helen was born in Douglastown, New Brunswick, Canada, July 9, 1925, the daughter of Cecil and Anne (Young) MacKenzie.  She grew up and has lived in Athol most of her life, graduating from Athol High School in 1942.        Helen worked at the former Victory Market for many years until her retirement.  She had previously worked at Larry’s Variety Store.  She was a member of the P.T.A. at the Ellen Bigelow School and was a leader of the Campfire Girls, when her children were growing up.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing needlepoint.   Helen especially enjoyed spending time with her five children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.      She leaves her husband of 59 years, Edward S. Larry; three sons, Mark Larry and his wife Lisa of Culver City, CA; Stephen Larry and his wife Patti of Athol and Martin Larry and his wife Kelly of Tiverton, RI; two daughters, Janet Larry of Tucson, AZ and Ann Joly and her husband Tom of North Smithfield, RI; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and a sister, Lyle Kenny of Gettysburg, PA.        A graveside service will be held Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Silver Lake Cemetery (upper section) with the Rev. Adam Randazzo, pastor of Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church officiating.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions may be made in Helen’s memory to the Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church, Living Memorial Fund, 40 Island Street, Athol, MA 01331.  Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol is directing arrangements.  For further information or to share a memory with the family go to:  www.higginsoconnorfuneralhome.com. $(document).ready(function(){ });
