Helena L. Stangvilla

ATHOL - Helena L. Stangvilla, 92 of 184 Prospect St., Athol, died Thursday, November 18, 2010 in the Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol. She was born in Athol, MA, on November 15, 1918, the daughter of the late Louis and the late Elizabeth (Palumbo) DeSantis. She was raised and educated in Athol. She was a hair stylist out of her home, operating Lee's Beauty Salon for over 30 years. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, and also enjoyed playing cards and gambling. She leaves one son: Alan Stangvilla of Rocky Point NC; one sister: Elia Chibas of Lowell, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and close friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years: John W. Stangvilla who died in 2007, her son: Jay Stangvilla who died in 1993, her daughters: Jonetta Rhodes who died in 2001 and Merrilee Randall who died in 2005; her sisters: Serina DeSantis, Ann West, Mary Oaks and Ida Scavo. Graveside services will be held Monday, November 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Gethsemane Cemetery. A gathering with refreshments will follow at her home.
